I have been in a ‘relationship’ with English for more than a half of my life now. I first spent five years at the Bilingual English-Slovak Grammar School in Sučany, Slovakia’s first English-Slovak secondary school in Slovakia where all classes are taught in English (except for Slovak, foreign languages and PE classes), established with the support by British Council Slovakia.

I then decided to carry on with my English studies and went to Comenius University in Bratislava. Since I believed knowing a foreign language might not be enough to earn one’s living, I studied at the Faculty of Philosophy to get my Master’s degree in English and marketing communication. For the last two years at the university, I already worked full-time as an export desk editor at the News Agency of the Slovak Republic (TASR), responsible for compiling, editing and translating news articles from Slovak into English.

After three years of working at the newswire, I was asked by two nice guys who were starting a translation agency back then to join them, and I became a freelance translator. Ten years later, I’m still in the business, working with that agency, as well as for direct clients of my own, and I have never regretted a single day of my freelancing.

I have been a member of the Slovak Association of Translators and Interpreters ( almost since its establishment; from July 2013, I’m SAPT accredited member.
